Vivienne Westwood is known the world over for her signature style and iconic silhouettes, so it’s with great joy that we show you the Vivienne Westwood 2022 Bridal Collection today.
And in fact, it’s not just one collection, but three: the made-to-order capsule collection, the couture capsule collection, and the Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood capsule collection too.
The bespoke, made-to-order and bridal collections are designed, sampled and hand-crafted locally in England, working with traditional tailoring techniques with the aim to preserve these precious communities and their craft, combined with historical and experimental pattern cutting.
Vivienne Westwood 2022 made-to-order bridal collection
This collection comprises 15 gowns and 9 separate styling pieces, available in a selection of luxurious fabrics and finishings, including environmentally conscious recycled tulles and vegan alternatives to silk and satin. Aptly for 2022, this elegant collection embodies a sense of new beginnings.
Floral details feature throughout, symbolising renewal, and are elevated by metamorphic three-dimensional detailing, sheer fabrics, and transformative elements. Three dimensional flowers adorn the corset of the mini Venus dress, embroidered flowers and ivy cascade down the sheer body of the Rhea column gown with exposed corsetry and fluttering confetti-like on the Princess dress, in the form of embroidered little leaves on tulle.
Of course, there’s also the unique Vivienne Westwood pattern cutting techniques that we admire so – at once classic and contemporary, well-known and yet innovative. Combined with her specially selected fabrics, contemporary exposed corsetry and layered tulle, the looks have an ethereal quality – ‘from another world, sculpted for goddesses’ – and a painterly romance.
Vivienne Westwood 2022 bridal couture collection
The couture collection draws inspiration from influential women from the arts and literature, spanning ancient Greece to modern day heroines. Drawing on these muses to sculpt a look for the modern Westwood bride, the collection is hand-crafted from a rich selection of fabrics both opulent and delicate. The historical cuts and modern silhouettes are finished with hand-crafted embellishment: crystal & pearl embroidery, signature Chantilly lace and three-dimensional floral details. Atop sumptuous drapes of lace and tulle you’ll find pastel roses; nestled within folds of silk and embroidered onto transparent veils are hidden love notes; and pearls and ostrich feathers proudly adorn the opera coats which finish the avant-garde collection.
Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood Spring-Summer 2022
Last but not least, we present this bespoke bridal collaboration collection, between Vivienne Westwood and Andreas Kronthaler. With the looks taken from the Spring-Summer 2022 runway collection presente in Paris, this collection experiments with proportion. An hourglass silhouette inspired by Marilyn Monroe and a classic 1950’s look; a modern interpretation of an historic Marie Antoinette gown, reminiscent of 18th century Versailles court dress. This exclusive collection in beaded tulle, white silk moiré and draped Chantilly lace is finished with delicate white feathers, silk taffeta bows and patchwork tulle boleros, and is available to be made-to-measure for each client.
And whilst we don’t want to wish your wedding day away, Vivienne Westwood also prioritise longevity in every one of their designs. With the aim to eliminate waste and give each Westwood gown a long and happy life, the couture team can now offer a service to transform each bridal gown post-wedding. Through a selection of offcut luxury fabrics, dying processes, silhouette alterations, embroidery, beading, appliqué and bespoke finishings, all expertly handcrafted by Westwood couturiers in the London atelier, the gown can be transformed into a timeless dress for all occasions.
