10 June 2022

In part 5 of their elopement series — the penultimate, sob! — the Ella Mai team are setting out how to create your elopement timeline, to ensure your stress-free experience continues into the day itself.

We’re Ella Mai Elopements, and we offer both all-inclusive Elopement Packages and DIY Elopement Planning Resources for couples who boldly choose to elope in Scotland. We want you to make the absolute most of your time and money, without missing out on the best that Scotland’s elopement industry has to offer. We’re here to help you take the stress out of your elopement planning, and add a whole lot of magic and meaning to your special day!

For now, we’re teaming up with The Wedding Collective to lay down the basics for eloping. If you’ve been considering an elopement, or you’ve already started your own elopement planning journey – this series is for you. So let’s get into it!

05. Create Your Elopement Timeline

There is SO much that goes into creating your elopement timeline. In fact, this section is 24 pages in our Runaways Guide, but we’ll boil it down to our top 5 tips!

Build your timeline around your ceremony, which you can base off of the projected time of golden hour (around sunrise or sunset). Ask your photographer to help!

Give yourself at least an extra 30 minutes to get from place to place. It helps if you’re running behind schedule, or want to make a spontaneous addition to your elopement day.

Start your day earlier than you think! If you’re getting your hair and makeup done, give yourself at least 3 hours to get ready in the morning. It’s better to be ready early than start your day running late.

We love first looks – they create a really beautiful space to have some time to yourselves on such a crazy day, and the photos are always really special. It also helps get some of the wedding day nerves out of the way without anyone around. You can also plan to do something special or sentimental for your first look!

And most importantly, create opportunities to HAVE FUN!
