Nicole and Sunil’s Edinburgh wedding was a colourful, joyful celebration of all the things, places and people they held dear to them, styled to perfection by Lemonbox Studios.
“The couple met while working and living in China and love to travel to places such as northern Thailand, the Philippines and the Maldives (where they got engaged).” Laura from Lemonbox explains. “Sunil is British Indian, Nicole is from Northern Ireland, they met in China, live in Scotland and love to travel so they wanted their big day to be a real mix ‘n’ match of traditions, styles, sounds and tastes!
“A big part of their decision to have a Humanist wedding was so that they could have a personalised ceremony which reflected them as a couple and added a fun, relaxed feel to the day. They really wanted the look of the wedding to do the same thing and were keen to include pops of colour and mixed patterns to reflect the eclectic cultures and places they have visited.”
Lemonbox Studios worked with Nicole and Sunil to make sure that these personal touches weren’t just present in the aesthetics of their Edinburgh wedding, but in every moment possible. “Nicole and Sunil are both primary teachers and all the little ones and all their parents turned up to wait for her arrival before the ceremony as a surprise arranged by the groom. As Nicole got out the car they surprised her waving coloured streamers and cheering and it was a really lovely touching moment!” Laura continues.
“We loved working really closely with the couple to incorporate lots of personal details such as the table numbers using drawings by the kids in Nicole’s class and the rattan ceremony screen which was the couples’ own. We worked to bring these elements together and make them work cohesively by introducing other key design elements such as the bespoke table plan.”
They chose Edinburgh wedding venue Restoration Yard for their big day, with the beautiful Orangery and lawn as the setting for their ceremony, and the stunning stables for their reception. “Although restrictions had eased a lot at the time of the wedding, there was still a general feeling that outside space was key to all the guests feeling relaxed and comfortable and able follow any guidelines which could still in place without it impacting on the feel of the day.” (Though they’d taken the brilliant step of hiring Brolly Bucket umbrellas, the weather held out for them!) “It was important to create more space so that guests felt they could spread outside, so we suggested creating an external lounge seating area with a tented canopy. The final outcome just worked so well with the style and feel of the day! We styled it using a mixture of sofas provided by the venue along with additional furniture, cushions, lanterns candles etc from our range and the end result really felt perfect for their wedding but also was a really practical solution.”
