WHO ARE YOU + WHERE ARE YOU BASED?
I’m Hannah – Founder & Creative Director behind Studio Porter.

Studio Porter is a London based creative studio that offers Full Planning, Styling and Coordination packages for Weddings and Intimate Events across the UK.

I’m a creator, maker, storyteller and coordinator, who specialises in design-led, authentic and purpose filled occasions where meticulous planning and awe-inspiring creativity is always at the forefront.

North London is where I’m currently based, but I love to work with people from all sorts of backgrounds from various places all over the country and even those from overseas.

DESCRIBE YOUR WORKPLACE

My home is my work studio. It’s the place I feel most comfortable, relaxed and inspired. However, as much as I love being in my home, I also love to explore and find myself constantly inspired by everyday things, objects, smells, sounds and even people.

WHERE/HOW DID IT ALL BEGIN?

It all started back in March of 2020 when, like many others, I was placed on furlough through my previous job and found myself with huge amounts of time to focus and work on what it was I really wanted to pursue as a career.

I originally come from a creative background, where I studied Fine Art in collage, a Diploma in Visual Merchandising and even dabbled in fashion at London’s LCF. I’m also incredibly organised and unashamedly, a fan of a good, detailed spreadsheet. But living and growing up in London, I found it hard to find the time to focus on what it was I really loved and enjoyed the most.

After a good amount of years, enjoyment from planning my own wedding and a lot of encouragement from my now husband and with the time off I had from the pandemic, I decided to take the jump and launch myself as a Wedding Planner & Stylist that focuses on design-led, modern weddings for couples looking to create an authentic, purpose filled celebration.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE WORK TO DATE?

I’m still very much at the early stages of my career – There are so many things I’m looking forward to doing and creating and incredibly excited for what the future has in stall for me. But so far, my highlight would have to be working on my first styled shoot where I got to work with some of the best UK industry suppliers and professionals, showcasing all their talents and reaping the rewards by seeing it on a very desirable online publication.

WHO/WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

My work is inspired by people, sights, sounds, emotions and feelings. I am someone that focuses not only on the big things, but the little things too, where attention to detail and the finer points are always carefully considered. Growing up around art, music, fashion and dance, I find that so many things inspire me on a daily basis. This could be a poem, a trip abroad, an amazing meal or even a beautiful piece of fabric. I find beauty in everything!

DESCRIBE YOUR TYPICAL DAY.

Having your own business, I find that no day is ever the same. But it’s good to have some sort of structure, so I try and stick to a general schedule in order to ensure I get the most out of my working weeks.

A typical day however starts by waking up early – I’ve always been an early bird and find that I’m a lot more productive that way.

It all starts by taking Ovie (my French bulldog puppy) for a walk around the park or a quick run around my local neighbourhood. I’ll then make a coffee and some breakfast and go through my emails. I make a note of what daily tasks I need to get through and start working my way through them. This may be working on a project, wedding or event, social media and marketing or networking. If I have a few meetings that week, I’ll work on preparing for those as well as any new enquiries and proposals.

If I’m home, in the afternoon I’ll try and take Ovie for a longer walk – I find this helps with breaking up the day, so when I get back I’m all refreshed and ready to go again.

To wind down, I’ll then look to make some dinner. I love to cook and find it relaxing. When my husband gets home, I also try and make sure that I’m away from my phone and laptop so we get to spend some quality time together after a long day.

WHERE’S YOUR FAVOURITE PLACE TO GO?

My husband and I are such foodies! We have so many places on our list of restaurants to visit and London has some real gems. On the weekend, we love to go for long walks and explore the surrounding countryside. The Cotswolds also has a special place in our hearts, as this is where we got engaged, so if we fancy a mini weekend break away, we usually head there.

Away from the UK, we have a huge love for traveling. We’ve both been fortunate to have seen and stayed in some amazing places around the world and those are memories I’ll always cherish.

FAVOURITE WEDDING VENUE?

I love unique venues that offer something modern and different. This could be a traditional looking country house with a few quirks or an interesting back story, or something completely modern which is more of a blank canvas for couples to make their own. At the moment, I’m loving more intimate venues such as Woods Quay in Embankment or The Glasshouse in Surrey.

TRENDS YOU HOPE TO SEE THIS SEASON

I really hope to see more couples showcasing their individual personalities and interests but in a creative way. I’m all about thinking of different avenues and mediums to tell a couple’s story and working with other like-minded creatives to make this happen. I think the overall aesthetic of weddings is now becoming more popular, with more and more people looking to hire a stylist as well as a planner for their special day.

It’s also nice to see couples being more adventurous with their decisions. There are now some incredible bridal wear designers out there, which stray away from traditional gowns as well as some very talented florists who push the boundaries with floral design.

BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’VE EVER BEEN GIVEN?

To stay true to myself and be confident and proud in what I do.
