real wedding –  autumnal roulotte Scottish elopement

31 December 2020

Corrina and Mal’s beautiful Roulotte Retreat elopement would be a breathtaker any time of year, but knowing that it was planned in a pandemic and even rescheduled due to restriction changes makes these images from Caro Weiss even more special.

“We wanted to marry this year following Mal’s proposal in Central Park NYC in June 2019, and had originally planned to have a wedding in Sheffield, but with a pandemic on its way we put our plans on hold.” Corrina explains. “Fast forward to October this year, when we were looking for a little getaway, and found Roulotte Retreat; noticing they held elopements we immediately started planning!”

“Our original date was 14th November, however with the news of a second lockdown happening we, along with the help of the owners Avril and Alan, our registrar Pam and photographer Caro, were able to push it forward to the 5th of November. It felt like the stars had aligned and this was the way it was supposed to happen, plus we now get fireworks on our anniversary every year!”

And fireworks are definitely what this gorgeous day deserves. Corrina and Mal married in a covid-friendly handfasting ceremony in front of a 1930s roulotte, and after that for a wonder in the wildflower meadow it sits in (yep, this place really does exist, we promise!) Carrying an exceptional bohemian bouquet from Wild Flower Workshop, Corinna wowed in a white, long-sleeved dress, whilst Mal matched Corinna’s fiery hair with a rust-coloured suit.

When we asked them for their top wedding advice for couples planning, they said “If you want a simple, relaxed and intimate ceremony we say elope! The light during golden hour on an autumnal afternoon, shining through the surrounding trees was truly magical and the intimacy of it just being the two of us was what made it so very special. And when planning never forget that this is your day, so do what you want as long as it brings you both joy and happiness.”
