small, pop-up celebrations –  how Riddle’s Court are working on weddings

22 May 2020

Are you thinking of having a smaller wedding celebration over the next few months? We might just have something for you, in the form of Riddle’s Court…over to you, team!

“A few months ago, the Events Team at Riddle’s Court was at the start of what was shaping up to be our busiest year to date. After re-opening following our restoration by the Scottish Historic Buildings Trust in September 2017, we have quickly evolved to become one of the premier unique venues in Edinburgh. This wasn’t done alone; we are lucky to have worked with some fantastic staff members within our team, as well as a wonderful range of suppliers and couples to produce some spectacular boutique weddings.

But now, most couples and venues are facing an unknown future. Despite a totally changing wedding scene, at Riddle’s Court we’re working to ensure our couples and partners are cared for as best we can – whatever this looks like! For those who are interested in keeping some semblance of a wedding in place, we’ve been researching our livestreaming options, looking at possible social distancing measures and maintaining as open a communication channel as possible. We’re listening and considering every possible scenario that a couple or supplier might want to look at. With an ever changing climate, we have to be able to adapt and coordinate accordingly for the new world we’re about to step into.

We’re also going one step further. Over the past few weeks, our Events Team has been working with a number of partners to explore a new, innovative Pop Up Celebration project. We want to make the planning of your ceremony as easy as possible – everything is taken care of for you; all that is needed from you is the ‘I do’! The proposal would be to host three ceremonies in one day, allowing various costs to be spread across the three different weddings. In doing so, you can be assured that the team has taken all the hassle out of planning your ceremony. They will organise your furniture hire, celebrant, photographer, musician, styling of the rooms including flower decoration as well as a bridal bouquet and buttonholes. Leaving you all the time in the world to get excited for – and to enjoy – your romantic day.

Your wedding day will still revolve around you and your wishes. All that will be left for you to do is enjoy every moment of your special occasion. You can enjoy a unique ceremony in one of the first floor rooms with their beautiful period features, including working fireplaces, or you can exchange your vows under the stunning chandeliers of the Library on the ground floor.

We hope that working on our smaller events will help to pave the way for larger gatherings and celebrations further down the line. In a time filled with uncertainty and stress, at Riddle’s Court we want to make any celebration you choose to be as easy as possible. Ultimately, we want all of our couples and their guests to know that we are working hard to ensure that Riddle’s Court is as accessible as we can make it, and that while some events might not turn out exactly as we had initially planned for some time, those that can take place will be as incredible as all our couples, whether new or old, deserve.

If you are interested in a small wedding or celebration with us at Riddle’s Court, please do look at our Resources Page for more information. We are looking at our own capabilities as a team and seeing how best we can utilise the beautiful spaces at our disposal. We want to see guests back in our building as soon as possible, contributing to its 400 years of history; because, ultimately, that’s what the Scottish Historic Buildings Trust is here to do.”
