A UNIQUE PHOTOBOOTH EXPERIENCE

If you’re looking for some fun wedding entertainment for your guests, you’re probably considering a photobooth – the best way to capture the hilarity of the evening and immortalise all of the joy (and all of the embarrassment) forever more. We adore Bygone Booth for their vintage-inspired open air photobooth set up, using Edwardian plate cameras and an ever-expanding array of props to create a properly immersive experience. Plus, you couldn’t meet 2 nicer people in love with what they do, which is always such a joy to be around! We chatted to them below…

WHO ARE YOU + WHERE ARE YOU BASED?

Hello!!! We are Mr & Mrs Bygone aka Joe & Steph, partners in life & business and… the proud creators of Bygone Booth- a unique photo booth experience.

Bygone is Glasgow based. Available for hire within Scotland including Edinburgh, Ayrshire, Perthshire, Loch Lomond and Fife.

DESCRIBE YOUR WORKPLACE

You can find us at wedding and event venues in Scotland from rustic barns to converted churches and everywhere in between.

When we’re not making memories we share a studio in 408 The White Studios (just above the WEST brewery) with fellow wedding suppliers. This ragtag team include Cat Robertson MUA, Pin Up Hair Glasgow & The Little Cake Parlour.

We also have a little office in our flat so most admin is done at home with Cat Stevens (our little monster of a cat).

WHERE/HOW DID IT ALL BEGIN?

It all started around 8 years ago whilst I (Steph) was taking an analogue photography class. Something sparked and we began formulating a plan for what would become Bygone Booth.

Our first function was a friend’s WW2 inspired club night, the perfect launching pad for our vintage inspired photo booth!! That was 6 years ago now, yes, Bygone is 6 this year!!

FAVOURITE WORK TO DATE?

The million dollar question!!

It’s impossible for us to choose a favourite wedding, couple or moment. We’ve built relationships with sooooo many of our Bygone Brides & Grooms. We still can’t quite believe that we get to spend time with couples on the biggest day of their lives!! It’s a privilege to be a part of that.

To answer the question we’d have to say capturing moments of pure joy! That’s my favourite part of the job. When people are in the moment, laughing, looking into each other’s eyes and we get to capture it for everyone to enjoy.

WHO / WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

Bygone was inspired by the bygone era of photography (see what we did there 😜).

When a photograph was a rare keepsake in a gentleman’s billfold (that’s wallet in today’s tongue).

Times may have changed, we all have 100’s of pictures on our phones but an actual photograph, something tangible that you can hold in your hands is still a special thing.

For us, it’s all about making memories!

We combine antiques and modern photography to make something unique that is more than a photo booth, it’s an experience!

DESCRIBE YOUR TYPICAL DAY

Like most wedding suppliers there’s no such thing as a typical day. Our schedule depends on how many functions we have in a day/week.

One constant is Mondays, Mondays are always an office day. We always work from home, a jug of filter coffee is always on the go and the day is always spent surrounded by typewriters and laptops. It’s not everyone’s typical idea of a day at the office buit we LOVE it!!

Joe types telegrams whilst I send invoices. Joe makes wax seals whilst I catch up on emails and so on.

Joe’s new favourite part of the day is making stop frame Lego videos for our social (you should check it out, Ray Harryhausen eat your heart out).

We end the day scheduling the week before having a wee brainstorm (normally over a glass of vino).

WHERE’S YOUR FAVOURITE PLACE TO GO?

This is where we differ as a couple 😂. Joe’s favourite place in the whole world is genuinely our flat!! Surrounded by pizza, retro games and a few cans of Pabst. I like to escape, one of my favourite places is Loch Fyne Oyster Bar. It’s a beautiful drive, there’s lots of cute little hikes and of course the best lobster/garlic butter!!

FAVOURITE WEDDING VENUE?

I can’t choose one so instead I’m gonna take this opportunity to big up the East End of Glasgow.

WEST, BAAD and St.Lukes are all important venues in the regeneration of the local area. That aside they are some of my favourite places to work, all with something special to offer. But my main reason for this is I LOVE wedding photos in the Barras!! So iconic, it never fails to give me all the feels.

TRENDS YOU HOPE TO SEE THIS SEASON

More Bridal Suits and jumpsuits please!!! Our lovely friend rocked a super chic suit at her wedding last year. It gave me modern Marlene Dietrich vibes!!

BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’VE BEEN GIVEN?

“Most of the things you worry about will never happen.” So relax guys! 😁
