EDINBURGH-BASED HEN PARTIES FOR COOL BRIDES

If you’re having a chic and sophisticated wedding, it’s a good bet that you’re looking for a chic and sophisticated hen do to go with it. And chic and sophisticated doesn’t have to mean boring and stuffy either – as the lovely ladies at We Make Edinburgh prove. They’re revamping the hen party scene with their super cute studio space near Waverly station. By offering incredible creative hen parties, they show you can still have a ball without taking about them; and learn a new skill without having to embarrass yourself in the process. Their offerings include necklace making, flower crown making and more – so we chatted to them about their gorgeous studio and what they’ve got going on for crafty brides!

WHO ARE YOU + WHERE ARE YOU BASED?

We are We Make Edinburgh. A new studio and workshop space based in central Edinburgh. For us it is a place to work and make and for you lovely people it is a place to take part in creative workshops, craft parties, run workshops and pick up some handmade items.

‘We Make’ is a place where we can all be creative and make beautiful things!

DESCRIBE YOUR WORKPLACE

We are based in central Edinburgh just a short walk from Waverly Station. We have a shop front and teaching space and studios out the back for artists to work and make. Our proudest possession is our giant peg boards that we had bespoke made to fit the length of our entire wall. This provides easily interchangeable displays for our handmade goods.

WHERE/HOW DID IT ALL BEGIN?

We Make is a collective. We have all been running our own creative businesses for many years and came together in January 2019 to open our own studio space in Edinburgh. It is great having support from fellow small business owners as sometimes running your own business can get lonely. We all bounce ideas off each other and it is great to have someone to share the workload with!

FAVOURITE WORK TO DATE?

Of course we love running our crafty hen parties! It is such a great atmosphere when a group of friends come together to get creative. Having a glass of fizz and learning to make a handmade item is a lot of fun and we love being part of your day and are always on hand for a photo moment.

WHO/WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

All Scottish female creative business owners! We know how hard it is to make a living from your creative passion and salut anyone who has put their heart and soul into getting their business off the ground. We know the hours are long and the work is hard, especially if you are a one man band and if you’ve gone out there and done it then we’re your biggest fan.

DESCRIBE YOUR TYPICAL DAY

Tea, it always starts with tea! Then down to the studio to open up for 10am. Radio 2 on the speaker and then a coffee from our favourite cafe Century General Store across the road. If we have a workshop we usually have to shuffle around the studio a bit, put out tables, set up equipment and if its a hen party pop the fizz! The we wait for you guys to arrive. After the workshop we normally pop a few pics up on instagram to boast about your amazing creations!

WHERE’S YOUR FAVOURITE PLACE TO GO?

For some quality, seasonal Scottish food it has to be The Gardeners Cottage.

FAVOURITE WEDDING VENUE?

The Old Dr Bell’s Baths

TRENDS YOU HOPE TO SEE THIS SEASON?

We hope the dried floral trend is around for another season. Whether it’s a whole bouquet or just the odd dried flower added into an arrangement. We are loving seed heads and dried lavender, which make arrangements last such a long time.

BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’VE BEEN GIVEN?

Do it now! Don’t put things off until tomorrow because then when tomorrow comes it’s already done!
