BIG-SCREEN-WORTHY WEDDING FILMS

Whatever you think about wedding films – get rid of those thoughts, and make way for some shiny new ones. Eleven Six Films are here to revolutionise the wedding film scene with their high-octane, big-screen-worthy films for fun, creative couples. As huge film geeks, Kelly and Craig wanted to offer couples something with a cinematic feel to give your love story the epic feature it truly deserves – from the shooting, to the edits, to the choice of music to accompany it, they want to make you Romeo + Juliet (the Baz Luhrmann version, obviously. Without all the death, preferably.) Meet them below!

WHO ARE YOU + WHERE ARE YOU BASED?

We’re Kelly & Craig, aka Eleven Six Films, and we are based in a little village just outside of Glasgow, Scotland. We have an incredibly cute “security team” made up of Dexter the mad Labrador and Nero & Ozzy the kitties.

DESCRIBE YOUR WORKPLACE

We work from home in our separate wee offices. It’s pretty cool and means our fur babies can chill with us while we edit in our PJs… sorry not PJs… suits! Yeah we wear suits, shirt and tie… totally professional attire at all times, honest! haha.

It is very awesome not having to worry about morning rush hour traffic. We can pretty much go from bed to work in 10 seconds if we want, although we usually get stopped on the way to the office by one of the cats demanding a cuddle.

WHERE/HOW DID IT ALL BEGIN?

We met when we were living the student life studying film and animation. One of our first chats was about the super important subject of what was in the briefcase they were carrying in Pulp Fiction. Serious stuff eh!

From there we became best buds and realised we were totally as weird as each other and shared the same random sense of humour. Fast forward and we’ve now been married for 11 years!

We started filming weddings almost by accident when we shot a wedding for Craig’s friend and it all kicked off from there.

After years of putting in all our free time and working our butts off, we were both able to leave our day jobs, work full time for ourselves and here we are with Eleven Six Films. We’ve been filming weddings for over 7 years and have captured so many weddings for the coolest couples ever.

Our work and style has grown year after year. We’re are always challenging ourselves to try new things and get crazy creative with every wedding we capture.

It’s so unbelievably weird and amazing that we just do this for a living. We bloody love it!

FAVOURITE WORK TO DATE?

Oh we couldn’t pick a favourite, all the weddings we’ve filmed have been awesome and we love them all for different reasons.

WHO/WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

We’re massive movie and TV shows geeks, so that’s where we get a lot of our inspiration from. We have a little bit of an obsession with all the little film making elements like composition, lighting and colour grading that work together to tell a story. If you think about how they pause live sports games to replay and analyse and chat about goals etc, that’s pretty much what we do with films. Proper weirdos, right?! haha…

We also get inspiration from watching other film makers from all over the world, including wedding videographers, and especially love the ones really pushing the bar high with their editing, cinematography and storytelling. Watching the imagination and creativity of other film makers and seeing how their minds work through their films is super fascinating. We’re always on the lookout for people who do things a bit different.

DESCRIBE YOUR TYPICAL DAY.

Typical working day: Editing! Lots and lots of editing, but it’s one of our fave parts of the job. That’s where the magic happens for us. We love the creative side of being able to tell the story of a couple’s day using all the cool editing tools we have at our disposal. It’s pretty damn time consuming, but it’s a lot of fun and never gets boring.

Typical non-working day: In our downtime you can usually find us out walks with Dexter, watching Netflix, gaming, at the cinema or hanging out in a funky veggie/ vegan joint.

WHERE’S YOUR FAVOURITE PLACE TO GO?

The cinema! We are those nutters who go to the cinema when they are on holiday. We love to discover super cool, quirky little cinemas where ever we go. Our favourite so far was an incredible outdoor cinema on the rooftop of a random little hippy village in Berlin.

Back in the day we used to go to Global Video all the time (old school, yas!). I’m pretty sure we kept our local branch in business for a while, but then… Netflix happened. Our old Global is now a sandwich shop.

We always love finding a cool new city to explore, but you can’t beat a log cabin hiding deep in a forest with a hot tub to chill out in.

FAVOURITE WEDDING VENUE?

Oh that’s a hard one. We’ve been lucky to have shot at sooo many amazing wedding venues.

Our faves are all the proper rustic or industrial style DIY venues like warehouses, old building, barns, real historical castles & ruins or anywhere a bit alternative and different. We’ve got a bit of a thing for epic natural settings and abandoned looking places.

TRENDS YOU HOPE TO SEE THIS SEASON

We don’t really follow trends, we just love it when people do their own thing and have a wedding that’s unique and personal to them. It’s your day so have the wedding you want and don’t let tradition dictate what you can and can’t do with your day.

BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’VE BEEN GIVEN?

“Be yourself and do what you love” – It’s sounds super cheesy and really obvious, but it’s not always easy in business to totally be yourself. Especially when that makes your company pretty different from “the norm” in your industry.
