real wedding –  Modern Art Deco Wedding in East London with Wonderful and Strange

3 June 2019

Sometimes historic, architectural wonders can seem terrifying and imposing, and sometimes they can seem just perfect for the party they’re about to host – and it was definitely the latter for Annie-May and Alex’s wedding at Town Hall Hotel, a stunning art deco venue in Shoreditch. And, of course, serial and serious party animals Martyna and David from Wonderful and Strange were on hand to capture the day in all of its beauty, gifting us with a gallery full of emotion, style, and did we mention party?

“The style of the whole day was absolutely perfect.” David explains. “The Maori poem during the ceremony, paying tribute to Annie-May’s Kiwi roots was beautiful and really moving. The whole day was just a massive celebration, with guests travelling to London from all over the world. It was so easy to see how loved Annie-May and Alex are, and what a massive circle of friends they’ve amassed over their years together.

One of my favourite parts of the day was racing from the couple’s flat in Walthamstow with the groom and his lads in the monsoon-like rain, on foot and via-Overground with some celebratory ‘train beers’ en route to the venue. It added an element of drama into what was otherwise a very classy, relaxed day!”

(Fear not, readers, they did arrive in time to see Annie-May walking into the chamber in a beautiful La Sposa gown. After this, they moved to their wedding breakfast room, with gorgeous wood-panelled walls and big tasselled metallic Bonbon Balloons.)

“Our ultimate favourite part was when a partition wall slid open after the meal to reveal Annie-May and Alex standing in front of their band, ready to kick off the party. We’ve never heard a reaction like it. It was like *insert popular band that doesn’t make me sound like yer old da’* appearing on stage at Wembley. From the moment the band kicked-off, it was mayhem and we couldn’t help but join in!”
