SENTIMENTAL AND PAINTERLY WEDDING JEWELLERY

Fanfare puh-lease as we welcome Jane Harrison Jewellery to the directory! We’re thrilled to have her gorgeous, painterly style on board – her collections are inspired by the sentimental moments we hold dear, which she then translates into metals, enamel and gemstones. Alongside her collections, Jane also does bespoke work – imagine a ring made especially for you, and based on your sentimental moments together! Our heart…

We chatted to Jane, who’s based in Glasgow, to find out a bit more about what she’s all about:

WHO ARE YOU + WHERE ARE YOU BASED?

Hello. I’m Jane Harrison, a designer goldsmith living and working in Glasgow.

I create contemporary handmade jewellery. I love making bespoke one off pieces as well as my ready to wear collections.

I also offer Make Your Own Wedding Ring workshops where I invite couples into my studio to guide them through the process!

DESCRIBE YOUR WORKPLACE.

I’m pretty fortunate to share a studio with a few other jewellers in The Briggait. Like any shared space it’s an eclectic mix of interesting objects and artwork.
My little section is always a bit of a mess, but its my mess and I like it that way. My walls are filled with photos of my dogs, postcards and keepsakes. My bench is always littered with tools, old samples and gemstones. I love it!

WHERE/HOW DID IT ALL BEGIN?

In 2012 I graduated from Glasgow School of Art with a BA(Hons) in Silversmithing and Jewellery Design. Since then I have continued designing and making work.

FAVOURITE WORK TO DATE?

Every piece I make has its own story, there’s too many to choose from. One of my favourite jobs to work on is remodelling my clients heirloom jewellery. When my clients trust me with their sentimental pieces of jewellery to make something new it’s very special.

WHO/WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

Well, thats a question. It can come from anywhere really, when I’m creating my collections I am inspired by sentimental moments and memories in my life. These become abstracted over time and eventually become my jewellery!

DESCRIBE YOUR TYPICAL DAY

Well my day always starts with getting my two dogs out for a walk. Once thats done the work begins – everyday is different some days ill head into the workshop and get making and other days I’ll work from home on new designs or the dreaded admin. I think thats why I love my work so much because no two days are the same.

WHERE’S YOUR FAVOURITE PLACE TO GO?

My favourite place to go is out to Mugdock park, just outside Glasgow. Its a great place for a good walk with the dogs and it means a lot to me as its where my husband proposed. Every time I go I discover a new route I’ve never seen before.

FAVOURITE WEDDING VENUE?

I’m a little biased, my favourite wedding venue is Cottiers because its where I got married. We wanted some where close to home with a relaxed feel. It was made even better with the Harry Potter vibes!

Harelaw Farm and Comrie Croft are also definite favourites of mine!

TRENDS YOU HOPE TO SEE THIS SEASON

Well in terms of jewellery I really love engagement rings with coloured stones, my favourite is probably green sapphire! I also have a real love for yellow gold- I think it has such a nice warmth to it!

BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’VE BEEN GIVEN

Well I’ve been given too much good advice to remember just one but one piece of advice I would give anyone is, If life’s tough get a puppy!
