BEAUTIFUL WEDDING CALLIGRAPHY

Laura Elizabeth Patrick has the vibes, and the flow, to bring beautiful script to beautiful people on beautiful days. Her stunning calligraphy work has a momentous feel to it and brings with it a sense of luxury and excitement to your big day – you’ll see what I mean when you see her gorge designs. Elegant and modern, her work is inspired by old vintage illustrations, celestial musings and organic wildflower arrangements, whether they’re seating plans, invites, or perspex table decorations. If you enjoy the twinkle of gold ink, we think you might just be pals…

WHO ARE YOU + WHERE ARE YOU BASED?

Hello hello I’m Laura based in a little town outside of Glasgow. I’m a calligrapher/ fine art stationery designer / photographer hybrid.

DESCRIBE YOUR WORKPLACE

I work from home where I have my own little studio. I’m at my happiest at my desk working on calligraphy projects all by hand or working on new designs or photo edits on my computer .

WHERE + HOW DID IT ALL BEGIN

I’ve always been a creative sort and my degree is in Fashion Design and Business. When I graduated I wasn’t quite sure what direction I wanted to go in and ended up in various non creative jobs. I ended up taking some short courses in design and photography and teaching myself things along the way. In 2015 I stumbled upon modern calligraphy and began to teach myself how to use the dip pen an ink. From there I’ve just built up experience working calligraphy into designs and building my own business.

FAVOURITE WORK TO DATE

Oh now this is hard. I love working with handmade papers. One of my favourite jobs was a full suite on the most glorious handmade deckled paper I shipped from Spain. The design worked in calligraphy, some aspects of the couples florals and a venue sketch. We foiled the whole suite in gold and finished with blush ribbon and a custom wax seal.

WHO + WHAT INSPIRES YOU

I’ve always looked to find inspiration in everything. My style is ever evolving and I draw ideas from nature, the sky and seasons and paintings. I love antiques and vintage books especially botanical illustrations. I have a great love of typography and like to experiment in my work.

DESCRIBE YOUR TYPICAL DAY

There is no typical day for me 🙂
Designing, emails, client phone calls, at various times of the day and evening.
I’ve started doing some yoga in the evening as sometimes I can be a bit of a workaholic, especially when I’m excited by something.

WHERE IS YOUR FAVOURITE PLACE TO GO?

I love visiting new places for city breaks and the like and have a bit of a soft spot for Marbella – I love the climate!
Closer to home I live near Chatelherault country park and always enjoy going a walk at the weekend.

FAVOURITE WEDDING VENUE?

I’m not sure I have one but I always think Castle venues have a little special quality.

TRENDS YOU HOPE TO SEE THIS SEASON

I’m not one for trends per sae but I’d be really keen if more people opted for letterpress. I love foil but personally there’s something about letterpress that harks back to simpler times.

BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’VE BEEN GIVEN?

Not advice as such but I always have went by the believe that being kind and approaching things with a good heart will get your far. We’re all human after all.
