IF YOU’RE PICKY ABOUT YOUR COFFEE ON A NORMAL DAY, YOU SHOULD BE ON YOUR WEDDING DAY TOO.

It’s just a fact. If you’re a coffee aficionado with one ear to the grind at all times, then why on earth would you be happy with a hot water urn and crappy coffee on your wedding day? Something Brewed’s Craig and Gillian felt the same whilst planning for their own wedding, and are here to save you now with their champion handbuilt brew bar. Serving up hand-selected roasts with true barista flair, their super smiley presence  is the perfect finishing touch for your big day, offering you something to pluck you up before you get…well, you get the gist. Their brew bar also serves teas and hot chocolates as well as soft drinks which you can personalise to your own taste – Turkish Delight lemonade, anyone? Errrrrr, it’s a yes from me.

WHO ARE YOU + WHERE ARE YOU BASED?

Something Brewed is Gillian and Craig McIntyre – we run a speciality coffee bar based in Glasgow, from which we caffeinate couples on their big day! We offer gorgeous coffees, loose leaf teas, homemade hot chocolates and other soft drinks like homemade lemonades and iced teas, all from our funky hand built brew bar.

DESCRIBE YOUR WORKPLACE.

We are based in our little cafe The Cran in Finnieston, Glasgow. It’s the perfect place to work through emails and enquiries while keeping ourselves satisfied with coffees and cakes. We love inviting couples to the cafe for a consultation, coffee and weddings are our two favourite things!

WHERE/HOW DID IT ALL BEGIN?

Gill and I were engaged and had begun planning our wedding. We found a lot of suppliers through the Wedding Collective (aw CHEERS guys!) but we were amazed we couldn’t find the number 1 thing we were searching for, which was a coffee bar. So we decided to set one up for our own wedding, and it quickly snowballed from there!

FAVOURITE WORK TO DATE?

Through our work at The Cran we have found couples who are looking to have entirely dry-hire weddings, which is an absolute dream for us. We love to meet couples who really get our business, and we especially love collaborating with them on unique ideas. Through this we have created some of our best soft drink creations such as Turkish Delight lemonade and botanically infused Iced Teas.

WHO/WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

We are always inspired by other wedding suppliers, especially those in entirely different sectors to ourselves. People with a passion to offer high-quality services or products and with a drive to continually improve themselves inspire us a lot. We have met so many people through the wedding industry that keep us on our toes!

DESCRIBE YOUR TYPICAL DAY.

Gill will generally be working at the cafe, running things. I usually start the day at our local roastery who provide our espresso coffee for the cafe and events, The Good Coffee Cartel. There I can sample any new coffees and I update our social media. Then I head to the cafe to continue to do admin and take enquiries, and lend a hand where it is required! This means Gill and I can always work together on certain things, or even just get feedback from each other.

WHERE’S YOUR FAVOURITE PLACE TO GO?

We are particularly fond of Scottish getaways in the pouring rain. Or coffee tours of new cities, particularly Berlin!

FAVOURITE WEDDING VENUE?

Our favourite venue to date is definitely Kinkell Byre. We have worked at several weddings there over the last couple of years and the venue matches our style and ethos so much. We always meet fellow supplier friends with a similar focus on quality, and make new friends too. I have an attraction to St Andrews that goes back to my childhood and the combination of the sun and sea with weddings and coffee is almost too much to handle!

TRENDS YOU HOPE TO SEE MORE OF THIS SEASON

The trend of more relaxed, informal or DIY style weddings has encouraged an increase in the requirements of a coffee bar at weddings and I hope this continues!

When we started we really thought only the coffee aficionados would be interested in our service but as everyone becomes more used to drinking high-quality coffee every day of their lives, more and more people are wanting that same quality on their wedding day.

BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’VE BEEN GIVEN?

The best advice we have ever been given is to not worry what other people are doing. Keep yourself aware of the competition and keep informed about the industry you work in, but follow your own path. This is especially relevant these days when endless Instagram images can influence how you think you should be doing things.
