25 March 2018

THEY SAY SHE MAKES WEDDING MAGIC…

Meet Ellie, The Wedding Enthusiast. A girl in the know. And one of the few modern shakers out there bringing a fresh feel to the planning side of things. With a limitless imagination, sound knowledge of the who what’s and the what’s good in the industry (an INVALUABLE thing) and a borderline wild enthusiasm for a good party and a detailed to do list – the ulllllllltimate combo – She’s a wedding doer’ of the merriest kind, powering her enthusiasm with tea + the artic monkeys like fun cool gurls made of magic do.  From helping you find that one piece of wedding kit, to building you the dream from scratch – Ellie’s got hands all over the wedding field and man she is making her mark with them.

She writes a mean blog post (check some of Ellie’s work for us here here + here to get the feels) and might just be the friendliest sounding wordsmith these pages have ever seen.  SHE’S A SMASHER.  And just know, if we love her we sure know you’ll love her. Y’know?  So there’s love all round really + that’s what we all want.  LOVE + MAGIC WEDDINGS. 4 EVA.⠀

WHO ARE YOU + WHERE ARE YOU BASED?

Iyaaaaa. I’m Ellie, chief enthusiast at The Wedding Enthusiast, and I’m based on the Monopoly board just off a dreamy high street, but grew up in Yorkshire (but before you say it, I don’t have a very strong accent! I grew up just outside of Hull, so you’d know about it if I did…

DESCRIBE YOUR WORKPLACE

In my cosy little living room, complete with mustard yellow leather sofas that we like to think we’ve made look Scandi chic but were actually old-lady-aesthetic and inherited with the flat! We’ve got a gallery wall up with a whole eclectic mix of prints and hangings – from a grey message board with Brandy, You’re A Fine Girl lyrics to so-bad-they’re-good Valentine’s Day cards and gorgeous postcards shot by The Curries, and I alternate between looking at this and out of the window looking out at the London skyline when I’m working. Both are as inspiring as the other, but in very different ways. And when I need a change of scenery, you can always find me holed up in any number of coffee shops knocking back tea and pastries.

WHERE DID IT ALL BEGIN?

I knew three things from a very early stage: I needed to be doing something creative at all times, I have a desperate need to make people happy, and I’m very organised. Put all these together combined with being a sucker for a love story and a couple with a lotta lols to bring, and you’ve got wedding consultant!

FAVOURITE WORK TO DATE

A shoot I co-concepted with Redamancy Wedding Design last October. It was shot on the streets of Shoreditch and featured glitter, denim, and the most beautiful bouquet I’ve ever seen, but in a totally ungaudy and not-twee way. Everytime I look through that gallery I find a new frame I’ve fallen in love with – a firm favourite though is the couple outside a gorgeous green-bricked pub called The Owl and The Pussycat.

WHO OR WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

A lot of the minutiae of everyday life. Sunsets, font types, little hooks in songs I hear on the radio, happy couples, the passion projects people are pursuing when I scroll through Instagram, red carpet fashion (Lana del Rey channeling Hedy Lamarr I am looking at YOU), Florence Welch’s entire life ethos, the way the sun streams through windows, fellow suppliers killlling the game, the backstreets on city breaks, my parents and their continual support…I promise I’m not this basic in person?!

DESCRIBE A TYPICAL DAY

As a consultant for both couples and clients my days are wonderfully varied but they generally consist of a lot of tea, some jam-based sweet treats, a lot of typing and inspirational researching, venue visits, and some creative endeavours, whether that’s baking or making something for a couple. All sponsored by excellent music, of course!

WHERE’S YOUR FAVOURITE PLACE TO GO?

Iceland! The country, not the shop – no offence Peter Andre. I went once on a school trip and honestly, it changed my life. It’s a ridiculous country so full of wonder and magic and beauty – I can’t WAIT to go back! And after a recent trip to New York, I’m ready to move over there tomorrow. Seriously, someone sponsor me and I’ll be on that flight in a heartbeat. Even though the lyrics don’t grammatically make sense, emotionally I’m totally feeling Alicia Keys – concrete jungle where dreams are made (of? From? Eeeehhhh…?) New York’s East Village totally has my heart!

TRENDS YOU HOPE TO SEE THIS SEASON?

Celestial influences! Moving away from the holographic and moving into the astronomical. Deep blues, rich velvets, golden stars and moons, and inky hues…ooooh, it gives me shivers.
More grooms in the kind of suits that Harry Styles would wear. Punchy patterns, bright colours, flamboyant tailoring. I’m a MAJOR fan.

BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’VE BEEN GIVEN

As someone notoriously bad at listening to advice, this is really hard to answer…but there’s a lovely lovely Bryony Gordon quote about becoming unapologetically you, you on full beam, you turned up to 11, you with the mega wattage – that’s what I always try to be. (Totally relevant to weddings too – your wedding’s got to be a celebration of you two, on full beam.)

SHE’S A REAL GOOD’UN x
